The fourth annual Newark Day took place on Sunday 26 April 2009.
Newark Day is a celebration of the town and its community. Newark Day provides a showcase for the many local groups and organisations that are active within our town. These groups range from sporting, through to the arts, history and conservation.
This year's event saw over 45 different groups and organisations taking part, with the largest number of demonstrations in the arena that the event has seen. The event was a huge success with hundreds of children and famililes enjoying the displays, from groups including the Ice Diamond Cheerleaders, Fernwood Sword Club and Golden Thread Tai Chi. Children could also be found busy over in the craft area making magical wands and hobby horses with materials from the Unique Scrap Store. There was plant swapping with Newark Allotments and Gardening Society and lost of interactive displays from our many local groups, to be found in the Market Place and Town Hall.
For the first time this year, Newark Day included the annual St Georges Day Scouts & Guide Parade. The Parade saw over 500 local children march into the Market Place for the Mayoral Salute and Dismissal, which provided a spectacular ending to Newark Day 2009.
