It is understood that the event attracted around 1200 people, who cheered as the 50 riders and their hounds entered the arena formed by barriers placed outside the Town Hall. There were a few anti-hunt demonstrators present who made a peaceful protest. The event went swimmingly and fully complied with the conditions stated by Newark & Sherwood District Council and the risk assessment for the use of the Market Place and the laws governing hunts. The Hunt Party was greeted by the Town Mayor and was served with a hot winter punch. |
South Notts Hunt
The South Notts Hunt, having accepted the Mayor’s invitation, on behalf of the Town Council, gathered in the Market Place for its New Year’s Day event this year. This was the reinstatement of a tradition that stems back many generations.
