Museum

In September 1999 Newark Town Council opened a fully accredited Civic Museum.

The Museum in the Town Hall is open from 11am until 4pm Monday to Saturday and is run by volunteer guides.  The Town Hall was designed in Palladian style in 1776 by the eminent architect John Carr of York.  Rooms within the Town Hall form part of the Museum and house a fine collection consisting of historic civic plate, gifts and paintings dating from the 17th century.

You can also visit the elegant 18th century Assembly Room, the historic Council Chamber overlooking the Market Place, the welcoming Mayor’s Parlour and much, much more.

We are family-friendly and have on-going activities for children and schools.

Opening hours: 11am to 4pm Mondays to Saturdays. Wheelchair access.
