Book the Mayor Form

Please fill in the form below to request the mayor to attend a function

This form is designed to assist the Mayoral Office in obtaining the necessary information required for each engagement. It is also produced to help the organisers to enable them to receive the civic dignitary(s) in the appropriate manner. Every effort will be made by the Mayoral Office to ensure your function is a success.

Mayor and Mayoress/Consort

The Mayor should be met and officially welcomed at a function by senior members of the organising body. The correct title for introducing the Mayor and Mayoress is ‘the Mayor and Mayoress or Mayor’s Consort (if male) of Newark”. After the initial introductions it is correct to refer to him/her as “Mr Mayor” and “Mayoress/Mayor’s Consort”.

The Mayor is regarded as the first citizen of Newark and shall have precedence in all places within the Town, subject to the Royal prerogative. In any formal seating arrangements (dinners, etc), the Mayor should be seated on the immediate right of the host/chairperson, with the only exception being when the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire is present or a member of the Royal family.

The Mayoress/Consort is usually seated with the Mayor when accompanying him/her, but has no standing within the Town.

The Mayor, during his/her term of Office, remains impartial and is unable to attend or become involved in any political or contentious matters.

Deputy Mayor

When the Deputy Mayor is representing the Mayor, the same precedence, which applies to the Mayor, should also be given to the Deputy Mayor. If accompanied, the precedence given for the Mayoress/Consort is applicable.
