Vacancy for Town Councillor

Following the sudden passing earlier this year of Councillor Laurence Goff a vacancy now exists for a seat on Newark Town Council.

With no election having been called following a statutory process, the Council is now seeking applications from those who may wish to become a Town Councillor. The position is voluntary and unpaid.

The Town Council is responsible for assets such as Newark Cemetery, Newark Town Hall, Newark Royal Market, Allotments , local events and a large number of Parks, Playgrounds and Green Spaces across Newark. For the avoidance of doubt the Town Council is not involved in highways and potholes.

On a financial level the Town Council has an annual turnover of over £2 million pound and receives approximately 5% of the Council Tax paid by Newark residents.

With ordinary elections due to take place in 2027 the opportunity is only there for around 1 year however for anyone considering volunteering to stand for election to the Town Council in the 2027 elections, this is a good opportunity to gain some advance experience.

Anyone interested to learn more about the opportunity can contact the Town Clerk Mr. Matthew Gleadell on 01636 680333 or by email [email protected]
